Chardonnay has been the flagship grape variety of Maison Perrier-Jouët since the very beginning, grown on the chalky hillsides of France’s Champagne region. This is where champagne is made. Located in the heart of Champagne’s Golden Triangle, on the Côte des Blancs, Perrier-Jouët’s vines rank at 99.2% on the Echelle des Crus quality scale. The distinctive qualities of the soil and the exceptional sun exposure makes this terroir particularly suited to producing the finest Chardonnay grapes.
The aromatic signature of the chalky soils
The distinctive style of Perrier-Jouët champagnes owes much to the chalky soils of the vineyards. This precious subsoil imbues the grapes with added minerality, freshness and acidity. This singular terroir, rich in trace elements, bestows floral notes which are the calling card of Perrier-Jouët champagnes. Burnished by the know-how of cellar master Séverine Frerson, these elegant, complex aromas make for a unique tasting experience.

Back in the 19th century, Charles Perrier began to invest in exceptional vineyards which would later be awarded “Grand Cru” status. This was a bold strategy, quite at odds with contemporary trends. His innovative vision and peerless understanding of the terroir continue to inspire Perrier-Jouët to this day, not least his abiding attachment to Chardonnay, the original champagne grape variety, as elegant as it is demanding.
