About Perrier-Jouët
WHAT IS PERRIER-JOUËT?
WHAT'S THE HISTORY OF PERRIER-JOUËT?
WHERE IS PERRIER-JOUËT MADE?
All our wines are grown and made in the Champagne region of France. Our House is located in Epernay, also in the Champagne region. Learn more about how Perrier-Jouët is made.
HOW IS PERRIER-JOUËT CHAMPAGNE MADE?
Champagne is made using a traditional method, known for its multi-step process and unique double-fermentation method. Chardonnay has always been our signature grape variety. From growing to bottling, every step of the traditional method at Maison Perrier-Jouët is designed to highlight the many facets of this unique, delicate grape.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY BOTTLE OF PERRIER-JOUËT?
We recommend you store your champagne horizontally, so the wine remains in contact with the cork, in a cool (53-59°F), dark place at a consistent temperature and humidity level.
WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF PERRIER-JOUËT? HOW LONG CAN I KEEP IT FOR?
In general, the optimal aging period depends on the vintage and storage conditions:
If your champagne is not vintage (made from grapes from the same year), we recommend opening it for your next occasion to experience the freshness and floral notes of the cuvée. You can also store it horizontally in a cool, dark place for up to five years.
If the champagne is vintage (the bottle has a year on it), you can store it horizontally in a cool, dark place indefinitely.
Larger bottles, like magnums, can be kept longer because the size of the bottle slows the aging process.
HOW LONG CAN I KEEP AN OPENED BOTTLE OF PERRIER-JOUËT CHAMPAGNE?
Once a bottle is opened, it should keep for about two days in the refrigerator with an airtight stopper. The right stopper will ensure your champagne stays bubbly for as long as possible.

WHAT IS ART NOUVEAU?
Art Nouveau was an international artistic movement known as Modernista in Spain, Jugendstil in Germany, Secession in Austria and Slovenia, Stile Liberty in Italy, and – after one of its exponents – Tiffany in the United States.
Art Nouveau rose to prominence in Barcelona and Brussels in the late 1880s thanks to the work of pioneering architects like Antoni Gaudi and Victor Horta and went on to influence all visual arts, especially the decorative arts. It also drew on the works and theories of the Englishman William Morris, who had drawn a strong distinction between craftsmanship and the mass production of industry indifferent to aesthetic concerns.
Art Nouveau spread rapidly throughout Europe – in France, it was propagated by Emile Gallé’s Ecole de Nancy. Emile Gallé created the design of our iconic Belle Epoque bottles in 1902.
The movement declined in 1914 with the outbreak of World War I. As fleeting as it was, this stylistic adventure – a reaction to the excesses of industrialization – struck a chord: Art Nouveau offered extraordinary liberty, a joyous creative spirit, and a comforting sense of enchanting possibility. This creative, free-spirited ethos is still at the heart of Perrier-Jouët's DNA. We nurture that creative legacy every year by asking artists who share this philosophy to create pieces for the house that continue this dialogue between art and nature. Maison Belle Epoque, the founders' home, is the largest private collection of French art nouveau in the world.
WHO WAS EMILE GALLÉ?
Emile Gallé was one of the founders of the Art Nouveau movement. In 1902 he was commissioned to design the Perrier-Jouët bottle, featuring Japanese anemones. This world-famous design still graces the bottles of our prestige cuvée, Belle Epoque.
WAS NATURE A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION FOR THE ARTISTS OF THE BELLE ÉPOQUE?
Art Nouveau’s elegant embellishments were developed to counteract the graceless shapes of the early industrial age. The movement looked to the natural world for inspiration, including the shapes and structures of flowers, plants, insects, and animals.
Perrier-Jouët also takes its inspiration from nature: The Art Nouveau anemone design of its Cuvée Belle Epoque is a fitting symbol of the brand and a hint at the floral delicate style of our champagnes.
